top 10 most powerful jedi ever

Top 10 Strongest Jedi of All Time: The Most Powerful Jedi Ever

The Top 10 Strongest Jedi of All Time is among one of the most difficult lists to make, but here’s what I think are the most powerful Jedi ever, along with some info, details, and FAQs by our readers at the end of the post.

I went over thousands of years of Star Wars lore and tried to judge the known Jedi having a lot of different variables into consideration.

Of course, making these lists is always a bit of an unfair task since there’s always room for debate and readers who get very angry at how things aren’t exactly organized the way they’d like.

Having said that, the list follows a clear path, starting from the 10th strongest Jedi and going up through the list until I declare the strongest Jedi of them all.

Not only that, I’ll make sure I’ll justify and support my choices so you can see what went through my mind when deciding on where to place these Jedi Heroes.

Some Jedi on this list you already know, because they appeared in the Star Wars movies.

However, I also included some really powerful Jedi from Legends, and some of you may not know who these are – so no worries, I’ll explain and tell you all you need to know about them.

Don’t forget you can always disagree with the list, and that’s fine, but I tried to be as objective as possible.

10 – Jacen Solo: The Legends Equivalent to Kylo Ren

Jacen is the son of Princess Leia and Han Solo, and he is the Legends equivalent to Kylo Ren in the Disneyverse.

Born on the planet of Coruscant, he was always a target and had to constantly be on his toes for attempts on his life – everyone wanted to get his family through him.

He had a twin sister, named Jaina Solo, and they both were Force Sensitive so they began to train as Jedi under the tutelage of Luke Skywalker himself.

They trained on Yavin 4.

At that time, a race of aliens almost destroyed the New Republic. They were the Vong and the Republic went to war with them.

Jacen didn’t want to fight on the front lines as he hated violence and combat.

However, an assassination mission which was led by Anakin Solo – his younger brother – went sour and Anakin was killed. Jacen was present during that mission and he was forced to take up leadership.

He defeat his enemies and was left to mourn when he returned.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t the end of the story since the Vongs were successful in capturing Solo, torturing him, and making him suffer for a year.

The pressure and sorrow was too much to bear, and so Jacen Solo fell to the Dark Side of the Force.

He escaped the Vong and returned to the Jedi Order, but the Dark Side was in him. He adopted the philosophy that ends justify the means.

Finally, something really disturbing happened!

He had a vision, and in this vision he saw that if he didn’t join the Sith, he would end up slaying Luke Skywalker, condemning the Galaxy to ruin.

This was the last straw and he therefore joined the Sith, betraying everyone he knew.

You can see how this draws a parallel to Kylo Ren and how he was inspired by Jacen, although Jacen was definitely the stronger of the two.

In Legends, Luke Skywalker had a lover named Mara Jade. Jacen Solo killed him… but here starts the irony of his story.

You see, his twin sister Jaina Solo, the one with who he trained and shared many of his life’s best moments was the one who finally killed him, laying him to rest.

Jacen Solo died Darth Caedus, closing his Sith Eyes.

He trained under Luke when he was a Jedi, and under Sith Master Lumiya during his time serving the dark side.

While a Jedi, his padawan was Ben Skywalker, and his apprentice during his Sith days was Tahiri Veila.

9 – General Ki-Adi Mundi: Top 10 Strongest Jedi of All Time

Ki-Adi Mundi always wanted his birth world of Cerea to be independent.

The Jedi Council held him in high regard, and his wisdom was such that they even included him in the Council before granting him the rank of Master.

Mundi was also one of the only Jedi who ever got an exception granted, allowing him to get married.

If you’re wondering why Jedi Ki-Adi was allowed to marry, it was because of his species birth rate, which is very low and so needs all members to do their part in continuing it.

So, he married five different wives and fathered seven children, which wasn’t a bad number for an endangered species.

A Jedi Master with 5 different wives deserves some praise by all accounts.

Having said that, Ki-Adi Mundi stayed true to the Jedi Way and tried his utmost not to bond with anyone from his family.

He was a Jedi combatant and shock trooper, always fighting in the front lines and charging towards conflict and war.

He fought in the Clone Wars, serving with distinction yet almost dying in a duel against General Grievous.

His huge family was slain in the Battle of Cerea, and instead of falling to the dark side, this strengthening his resolve and drove him further to the light – which is a testament to his values.

He led countless attacks on Separatist bases and even fought Dark Jedi Asajj Ventress.

Always in the thick of battle and being focused by every droid on the field, he would always come out unharmed, which is proof he was a powerhouse.

To top it all of, he was also trained already out of infancy – which is something the Jedi never do unless you count some really special exceptions like Yoda or Anakin.

Ki-Adi Mundi was a padawan of An’ya Kuro and Master Yoda, and while he was a master he trained Anakin Skywalker temporarily and had a padawan called Dama Montalvo.

8 – Kit Fisto: Unparallel Underwater Duelling Skills

Kit Fisto was a friend of Ki-Adi Mundi and he was also one of the generals who, like him, led the Clone Armies.

This Jedi Master was a force to be reckoned with, but if you put water into the mix – he was nearly unparalleled.

His underwater lightsaber dueling skills were out of this world, quite literally, and his flourish and finesse were truly a spectacle to look at.

He also once faced General Grievous, and Kit was close to slaying him but couldn’t because he activated his droids and took his apprentice.

Fisto also duelled Asaj Ventress.

On the other hand, Fisto got the short end of the stick when he went with Mace Windu to arrest Senator Palpatine, Darth Sidious.

You see, at the beginning of that fight, Darth Sidious used a Force Power called Force Shout, in which the Force is used to temporarily stagger an opponent.

Sadly, Fisto was the unlucky Jedi to be targeted and he died before he could recover his senses.

Kit Fisto was one of Master Yoda’s padawans, and he had two padawan apprentices, one was called Bant Eerin, and the other was named Nahdar Vebb, a Jedi who graduated his training and became a full-fledged Jedi Knight.

7 – Plo Koon: A Jedi Hero and Ace of the Republic

We all have a special place in our hearts for Obi-Wan’s master, Qui-Gon Jinn.

Well, Plo Koon was one of Qui-Gon’s best friends.

Koon was a Jedi Guardian who excelled when inside a fighter jet. However, he was also quite the blade master.

The Jedi Master Plo Koon was the choice when the Council needed to send someone on a mission against much bigger numbers as he was known to be able to subdue bigger teams while working as an agent.

Not only was he a veteran of the Stark Hyperspace Wars, but he also served as a general besides Kit Fisto, Ki-Adi Mundi, and the others.

The Jedi Council invited him to a seat, and he was the one to refuse to join, as he believed Qui-Gon had a better mind than him, so he gave his spot to his best friend.

He would end up joining after some time.

One of the greatest starfighter pilots of all time, he was a negotiator during the Stark Hyperspace Wars. His master, also a masterful pilot, was shot down during a negotiation that went sour, and Plo Koon saw his master’s fighter burn down.

He took up leadership there and, against overwhelming odds and numbers, was able to come up victorious.

This victory was regarded by many, if not all on both sides, as a miracle.

Plo Koon was then made Hero of the Republic.

Ki-Adi Mundi was the battle master of the land forces, Kit Fisto was the amphibian powerhouse and Plo Koon was the ace of air superiority.

Unfortunately, during the infamous Order 66, the Clone Fighters escorting Plo Koon turned on him and shot his fighter from the back.

Plo Koon’s Jedi Master was Tyvokka, and his apprentices were Lissarkh and Bultar Swan.

6 – Nomi Sunrider: A Female Entrance on our Top 10 Strongest Jedi of All Time List

Nomi was a woman married to Andur Sunrider, a Jedi Knight.

When the couple was traveling, they were ambushed by Bogga the Hutt’s thugs who were hunting for Adegan Crystals – a lightsaber crystal Andur was carrying.

They murdered her husband right in front of her, but she didn’t give up, and she grabbed her husband’s lightsaber.

Nomi was starting down the path towards becoming one of the most formidable Lady Jedi ever.

Jedi Master Thon took her under his wing and taught her about the Force and the Jedi way.

Eventually, she graduated and became a Jedi Knight by her own right.

Her time as a Jedi wasn’t a time of peace, and she served the Order during the Great Sith War, facing the forces of Qel-Droma and Exar Kun, his master.

Nomi Sunrider wasn’t done suffering losses though, and Qel-Droma assassinated her brother.

With all of her rage being channeled by the light side, she used her full power to cut Qel-Droma out of the Force, breaking his connection to it. Thus, she had a central role in ending the Great Sith War.

Once the war was over, she didn’t stop being an active asset to the Jedi Order, and she climbed the ranks, becoming the Grand Master and rebuilding the order, which was going through some rough times.

Even after thousands of years, Nomi was always remembered and her legacy can be seen among countless books in the Jedi Archives and libraries.

Nomi studied under Thon, Odan-Urr and Arca Jeth.

She also had a padawan, which was her own daughter, named Vima Sunrider.

5 – Obi-Wan Kenobi: An Obvious Entry for our Top 10 Strongest Jedi of All Time

Obi-Wan Kenobi had to be in this list, and the only question would be where to place him.

The galaxy was changed by a lot of individuals, and I wager Obi-Wan had a huge impact on it, and he left his mark in history.

He was the master of both Anakin Skywalker and his son Luke.

His master was Qui-Gon Jinn, but the honor of killing the first Sith in 1,000 years was his, as he killed Darth Maul (At least he was assumed dead at that point even though we know he survived).

He also had the honor of belonging to the High Jedi Council as one of its last active members.

Ki-Adi Mundi almost died to General Grievous, and Kit Fisto dueled him as well, but it was Obi-Wan who killed this Jedi bot.

Obi-Wan suffered from friendly fire by Commander Cody thanks to Order 66, but he was one of the few Jedi who survived.

When Obi-Wan discovered he was being targetted and learned all about Order 66, he went to meet with Grand Master Yoda, only to realize the Jedi were in a really bad place.

They discovered Anakin’s betrayal and found he was now operating under the name Darth Vader.

After witnessing Anakin slaying the younglings, Obi-Wan decided it was time to do something he never wanted to, to confront and kill his soul brother – Anakin, the Jedi he taught himself.

The battle was epic, but Kenobi proved he could beat Anakin yet didn’t have it in him to slay his former padawan.

He left Vader for dead and took his son, Luke, to live with the Lars family.

After Luke Skywalker became a young adult, Kenobi started teaching him about the Force and the Jedi way, guiding him the best he could, as he knew it would fall upon Luke to deal with his father and Palpatine, also known as Darth Sidious.

Obi-Wan faced his demise when he duelled Lord Vader for a final time.

Vader was still young, and he was old, plus some speculate Obi-Wan decided to release himself to the Force in front of his young pupil as a way to increase his commitment, determination, and encourage his growth.

Obi-Wan remained in existence as a Force Ghost, guiding Luke throughout his path to victory.

Obi-Wan Kenobi’s masters were Qui-Gon Jinn and Master Yoda.

As far as apprentices, he had Luke Skywalker, Anakin Skywalker and Ferus Olin.

4 – Mace Windu: The Master Jedi Blademaster and Duellist

If there was one Jedi who really knew how to duel, it was Mace Windu, regarded as one of the best Lightsaber masters the Jedi Order ever had.

Mace Windu was actually the Grand Master of the Jedi Order until the time when the battle of Geonosis happened, and it was then he decided to bestow that title to Master Yoda.

He was a skilled duelist and he also created a new lightsaber fighting style, the Vaapad form.

This was the 7th form of Lightsaber Combat.

There’s one curious fact about the 7th Form, Vaapad style – all the practitioners of this style fell to the dark side, except Mace Windu. This was considered to be because of the fact this is a very aggressive and raw style, which makes dark side emotions flow close to the skin.

Windu was the leader of the 212 Jedi of the Battle of Genosis.

He was also the one who killed Bobba Fett’s father, Jango Fett.

His lightsaber was a distinctive purple color.

Windu also fought and defeated Count Dooku, forcing him to flee.

On his final hour, Mace Windu went with Kit Fisto and some others to arrest Darth Sidious, and he almost defeated him but Anakin betrayed him, cut his hand, and the rest is history.

Mace Windu was padawan to Master Yoda and T’ra Saa.

As far as his apprentices are concerned, he trained Depa Billaba, Echuu Shen-Jon and Devan For’deschel.

3 – Revan: From Jedi to Sith and Full Circle.

Revan was recognized by the Jedi order as one of their greatest military genius, promising men, and one of the Republic’s greatest champions.

He enjoyed a lot of adoration and tremendous amounts of influence, while on the other side even the Mandalorians called him “The Butcher”.

During the war against the Mandalorians, the Jedi Order did not want to act and Revan decided to take the Jedi who wanted to fight the Mandalorians and lead them to battle.

Sucessful, he fell to the Dark Side a short time after alongside his padawan Malak.

Revan was a great Dark Lord of the Sith, but he was captured and his memory was erased, replaced with false memories which led him to become a Jedi once again – showing how the Jedi valued him.

Darth Malak, his former apprentice, took up the mantle of Dark Lord of the Sith and took command of a dangerous Rakatan star base known as the Star Forge.

Revan and Jedi Bastilla Shan hunted him down and fell in love along the way.

Revan invaded numerous Sith Bases, killed hundreds of Sith, and finally took up the fight against Darth Malak’s apprentice, Darth Brandon, eliminating him.

Darth Malak captured Revan’s lover Bastilla and converted her to the Dark Side through heavy torture, but Revan redeemed her.

Revan was now on to Malak, who drained the Force Power of many Jedi and empowered himself through the Star Forge, becoming much stronger than he used to.

Revan dueled and defeated Darth Malak, while Bastilla helped the Republic’s fleet with her Battle Meditation technique, winning the day.

Jedi Revan was then declared Savior and Hero of the Republic.

He departed and never returned, and through his life, he was known to be the personification of one thing – leadership!

Revan’s Jedi Master was Kreia, while Sith Master was Yuthura Ban. As far as apprentices are concerned, his Jedi apprentice was Padawan Malak, while his Sith Apprentice was Darth Malak – so, always the same guy.

2 – Yoda: Another Obvious Top 10 Strongest Jedi of All Time Entry

You knew Yoda would have a great place in this list, and maybe you even though he’d be number one, but I give him the second place.

Yoda was someone who was surpassed by his student, while he himself surpassed his master.

The Grand Master of the Jedi Order most think of when they think of Grand Masters, he was on the Jedi Council for longer than anyone else and he trained so many different Jedi we are not even going to mention all of his students, just the best ones.

He trained with a lightsaber, but was better at Force Control, mastery and knowledge.

He dominated most fighting skills, but his true calling was to teach the younglings, bestowing the Jedi teachings he held so dear and dedicating his life to teaching the youngest Jedi Generation of each cycle.

Master Yoda fought Darth Sidious, but he had a vision that if he continued fighting he would die.

It was at this moment Yoda retreated, as he knew he had to be the one to train Luke.

Yoda’s master was Del Gormo, and he had tons of apprentices, the most notable being Mace Windu, Tyvokka, Count Dooku, Luke Skywalker, Ki-Adi Mundi, Kit Fisto among others.

1 – Luke Skywalker: 1st Place of the Top 10 Strongest Jedi of All Time List

An order Grand Master and a Galactic Civil War Hero, he was well trained by Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi and went on an epic quest to defeat the Empire and the Sith Lords.

He was also a great X-Wing pilot, and most would say he was just as good as Plo Koon, the Jedi Ace.

Luke destroyed the Empire’s first Death Star and joined the Rebel Alliance, giving them the banner they needed to rally behind.

Emperor Sidious and Darth Vader were guarding the second Death Star when Luke invaded, and Vader dueled his son.

Luke won the duel, but he didn’t want to kill his father, so a frustrated Darth Sidious used Force Lightning on Luke, torturing him with pain and trying to take him to the Dark Side.

Vader was redeemed and became the child of prophecy once again, killing Palpatine but dying to his wounds afterward.

After the war was won, Luke founded the New Jedi Order, assumed the role of Grand Master, and trained a new generation of Jedi.

Down the road, Luke was a paragon of virtue and an invincible Jedi who could not only predict the future but also do things never another Jedi would do or anyone else did in the past.

He became one with the Force, but his time of death is unknown (we’re discarding the weak Disney version of Luke Skywalker, that guy was trash).

Luke’s masters were Yoda and Obi-Wan, although briefly he trained with Palpatine.

On the other hand, his padawans were numerous, and among his apprentices, you can find Anakin Solo, Leia Solo, Jacen Solo, Jaina Solo, and Mara Jade Skywalker.

FAQs on My Top 10 Strongest Jedi of All Time List: Answers to the Most Asked Questions Ever!

Why Isn’t Anakin Skywalker on this list of Strongest Jedi of All Time?

I decided to place him in my Sith Lords list, so if you want to take a look at it, I’m giving you the link below:

Top 50 Strongest Sith Lords of All Time.

I hope you enjoy this list as it was one of the biggest pieces I ever wrote and it was the first list of this scope available on the web.

Is Rey the Worst Jedi?

I hate the Disney version of Star Wars, and I don’t consider it to be Canon at all.

Rey, to me, is a joke and doesn’t exist in the official timeline. She is definitely the worst Jedi ever, and the movie flopping was something I enjoyed seeing thanks to how ridiculous they were.

Who is the Sexiest Jedi? Who is the Sexiest Sith?

If you’re wondering about these questions, know you aren’t the first and this is actually one of the most frequently asked questions.

If I had to choose, I’d say on the Dark Side you’d be looking towards Darth Talon or Darth Zannah.

On the other hand, as far as the light side is concerned, maybe Shira Brie, Mara Jade, or Ahsoka if you’re into aliens.

Yoda is So Powerful, Why is Luke Number One?

Consider that I read the books and all content available, so I’m using Luke from Legends, who is way more powerful.

I understand the confusion if you’re thinking about movies Luke, who is only good at drinking green milk.

How Powerful is Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker?

To be frank, he can be thought of as Jedi God. Except he actually had character development and suffered a lot throughout his journey, gaining more power as time went by.

We know Disney makes Jedi Gods with no development, and that’s something we hate.

Why isn’t Qui-Gon Jinn in this list? Where’s Anakin Skywalker?

Anakin is on my Sith List and I decided to not include him in this one. However, Qui-Gon is a different story.

Qui-Gon is good at force mastery and harmony with the Force, but he just doesn’t cut it in other areas like dueling skills, feats and etc.

This leaves him to score a bit lower than the top 10 Jedi ever scored.

Isn’t Ezra one of the Strongest Jedi Ever?

To be frank, even though I also love Ezra, he just doesn’t have the power it takes to get on this list. He belongs to the Top 25 List, however, so rest assured he isn’t that far.

Ashoka and Rey Should Be in This List!

Ashoka is a bit similar to Ezra in that she is powerful but just doesn’t score as high globally, leaving her a bit shy out of belonging to this Top 10 Strongest Jedi of All Time list.

On the other hand, I don’t have to explain about Rey now do I? I wrote the list without considering Disney.

Who are the Top 10 Strongest Sith?

Again, I already wrote about that, and you should check the Sith Lords article.

Where Did You Get the Information to Make This Top 10 Strongest Jedi of All Time List?

I read all of the books, read woookipedia a lot and watched all of the Pre-Disney movies.

I also watched the Disney ones, but just to scream angrily at clouds over it and eat some popcorn.

How Strong is Starkiller and Why Isn’t He Here?

Well, the thing is that even before the EU and Legends were discredited and placed on the non-cannon bucket, Starkiller was never canon.

This is why I left him out.

But, he may become canon in the future as I can see that happening when Disney decides to return to the core of Star Wars fans after the collapses it has been experiencing.

Starkiller is one of the most liked characters so they may want to capitalize on it.

Why Does Everyone Include Obi-Wan Kenobi?

Apparently, there are a lot of people who don’t think Kenobi should be in this list.

I have to disagree, Kenobi not only showed his power against some of the most powerful enemies of his time, but he also left a huge legacy and changed the galaxy.

He is a good Jedi all around and could probably beat most guys of this list.

How is Ki-Adi Mundi in This List and Qui-Gon Isn´t?

Well, I know that these lists can be tricky to make because you won’t please everyone, and mostly everyone disagrees with one spot or another.

However, I tried to consider a lot of different variables when sorting out the scores, and Qui-Gon did score better at Force Mastery.

However, Ki-Adi Mundi scored higher in global, and he is a more powerful all-rounder than Qui-Gon.

Do Any of the Jedi Have a Chance Against Darth Sidious?

Luke Skywalker can beat Darth Sidious, but to tell you the truth I think nobody else on this list can win against the emperor.

Jacen Solo, Anakin Solo, Jaina Solo are not Canon:

I know, but this list considers Legends and EU Canon instead of the Disneyverse.

This is a George Lucas approved list, rather than a Kennedy one.

Who is Qui-Gon Master?

As mentioned in the article, Qui-Gon was a padawan of Master Yoda.

How Strong or Powerful is Yaddle?

Yaddle is really powerful and I would include her in the Top 10 Strongest Female Jedi. Considering all of the Jedi in existence, Yaddle would probably have a spot on the Top 25. She can’t score high enough to make it to this list.

Why is Mace Windu’s Lightsaber Purple?

If you’re considering the Star Wars Universe purely, and only go by the Lore, then know purple sabers pull a user to the Dark Side, so they were typically avoided by most Jedi as all purple lightsaber users fell to the dark side except Mace.

However, if you want to tackle the reality of the subject, Samuel L. Jackson has a superstition in which he needs a purple item to be in each movie he makes.

Considering this George Lucas accepted his request to have a purple lightsaber.

The only other request Samuel L. Jackson had was that Lucas wouldn’t make him die like a weakling.

I hope you enjoyed my Top 10 Strongest Jedi of All Time list and that you now know more about the choices that motivated me to score these Jedi as I did.

I know you may disagree with some choices, but remember that the only important thing is what YOU think.

May the Force be with You!
